I work in traditional painting media, combining studio methods with an intuitive layered process. Oil paint is the medium, for its flexibility, depth, luminosity, and ability to build complex surfaces over many passes. Canvas, linen, aluminum and wood panels, prepared with ground. I have produced work in a wide variety of sizes from a few inches up to 5 feet. I mostly use layered painting and glazing, building imagery to create rich depth and form. I use a combination of paint application, thinner transparent paint in the darks and shadows, then thicker opaque paint in highlights. This textural variation, achieved through many layers -imprimatura, grisaille, color layers, glazed and scumbled brushwork and buildup of paint.
