Bennie (Yellowman) Nelson

Navajo

As a dedicated self-taught artist with a passion for creating unique and captivating artwork, I pour my heart and soul into each piece, utilizing a carefully curated combination of techniques and materials. My artistic process begins with the selection of well-worn sable hair and synthetic brushes, meticulously chosen for their ability to capture intricate details and expansive strokes. These brushes range in size from the smallest 00 for precise fine-line work to larger 5-inch widths, perfectly suited for laying rich, textured backgrounds. To achieve the desired depth, luminosity, and visual impact, I employ a versatile palette of transparent and opaque, heavy-bodied acrylic paints, carefully blending various hues and shades to evoke emotion and tell a story on the canvas. My preferred canvas is heavy-duty, gallery-wrapped canvas, selected for its durability and smooth texture, available in a spectrum of sizes, from intimate 2-inch miniatures to monumental 12-foot masterpieces.
