Alberta Henderson

Yá'át'ééh, my name is Alberta Henderson. I am a 6th generation Two Grey Hills weaver. I started weaving at the age of 8. I learned my traditional art from my mother. It has been a way of living and providing for my family. From a young age, I remember herding our flock of sheep on the New Mexico Navajo reservation. Early on we used our own Churro sheep for wool. We sheared, cleaned, carded and hand spun the wool into thread. It has always been a labor of love and I continue to carry this tradition.I weave my rugs on a traditional Navajo upright loom. All the colors I use are naturally blended to create different shades of browns, tans and greys. The only wool I over-dye is black. In addition, I keep with the traditional design and patterns found in a Two Grey Hills rug. One to two diamond central patterns with embellished corner designs, enclosed by a border design and finished with a traditional ‘Spirit’ line. All my rugs are natural and finely woven into tapestry quality art.
