Christopher Short

Citizen Potawatomi Nation

I focus on contemporary fine art photography that is camera ready to print, rather than utilize computer manipulation/enhancement, in order to tell Tribal stories through my unique perspective. I use various methods of photography, including HDR (High Dynamic Range) where I take multiple photos of a subject and then blend them into a single photo in order to capture and display a greater range of light and dark tones. I also use experimental lighting, tabletop dioramas that I design and construct to represent the natural world, and projections of laser images from my petroglyph photographs in order to take photographs that tell Native history in a contemporary way and help preserve these ancient art forms that are always in jeopardy. In this way, I am able to fuse traditional symbols with modern ideas and emerging technologies. I continuously explore the line between my culture and tradition and innovation and art. That is always my goal. All my art embraces my heritage.
