Avis Charley

My work combines drawing, painting, and mixed media to create contemporary ledger-based and figurative compositions. I work primarily with oil paint, acrylic, ink, and colored pencil on antique paper and canvas. I often layer imagery, text, and colors, building compositions through drawing first, then developing depth, light, and narrative through paint. My process emphasizes careful layering, and attention to surface as a carrier of messaging and meaning.
