Portfolio Example & Artist Statement
April Allen

I create contemporary Inuit fashion and accessories using traditional and modern materials such as sealskin, leather, fur, beaded embellishments, and textiles. My work includes garments, slippers, jewelry, mitts, ties and hats, all crafted with meticulous hand-sewing and traditional Inuit techniques passed down through generations. I incorporate intricate beadwork, fur appliqué, and structured silhouettes to blend cultural storytelling with modern elegance. Each piece is a tribute to Inuit resilience, artistry, and connection to the land, honoring my Nunatsiavut heritage while embracing innovation in design.
