I am a Traditional/Contemporary basket weaver but recently have added painting and drawing into my art journey. Traditional is the technique of coiling utilizing both the figure eight stitch and the single stitch method. Contemporary refers to the materials used including; waxed linen thread, raffia a palm fiber, silk thread, and nylon thread. The coiling method is one of the oldest weaving forms of basket weaving. Although basket weaving is my primary art form I have been exploring with painting and drawing. My baskets are my inspiration for my painting. Painting and drawing allow me to add more detail and color to my work.
