I prefer to work with Alabaster due to the color variations. For larger pieces I will use power tools to carve with. I then work down to using a dremel tool, exacto knives and sandpaper to finish the carving process. I fine sand for smoothness and apply varnish. I will add texture and design afterward ( white areas) with a dremel tool, sandpaper, and files. I often make a wooden base by cutting and sanding it to the desired shape and applying varnsh.
