Portfolio Example & Artist Statement

To create my artwork I use an acetylene torch to melt sterling silver. After the silver is melted, I use a roller to flatten and smooth the sterling silver to the desired gauge for my creations. The acetylene torch is then used to solder hand rolled bezel cups to the plate. To adhere the bezel cups to the plate I use ultra flux and hard 75 solder to insure the bezel cups do not pop off. After bezel cups are soldered on I use liver of silver to oxidize my creations and use a buffing machine to shine my pieces. To ensure cleanliness, I wash with hot water and dawn dish soap to take off the buffing soot that occurred in the process. After drying, I use saw dust and a handmade bezel press to press my stones into my creations. After all of the bezels are pressed well I take a Sunshine polishing cloth and shine my pieces to reveal a pristine and polished look. The material I use is sterling silver and 14k gold as well as high grade turquoise, Mediterranean Coral and genuine spiny oyster.
