The materials I use for my carvings are usually one or two piece(s) of cottonwood root, stained with linseed oil, wood-burned and painted with acrylic paint. Techniques I use are hand carving cottonwood root, sanding, wood-burning, and staining with linseed oil and hand painting with acrylic paint. Sometimes I use two pieces of cottonwood root for the main carving and then for the base to hold the sculpture in place. I also go out to washes across Arizona to handpick my own cottonwood root.
