In my paintings, I use primarily oil paint and colored pencil to create still life compositions that feature formline designs and other household items. The paintings are based on photography, creating a painted archive of the objects featured in the image. My work is very inspired by both northern European still life paintings, as well as Tsimshian formline. Many of my current paintings are created from objects that I have inherited from my family members and act as an homage to our lineage and family history. My prints are all original designs. I begin by deciding on a subject, researching other artists interpretations, and using that as inspiration to create my own compositions. I find that the act of carving these block prints to be very intuitive because of the style of forms, as well as link to relief carving that is found on many Tsimshian and Northwest Coast native objects such as bentwood boxes.
