Portfolio Example & Artist Statement
Jennifer Hicks

The overarching them for my work is that I make art that is very detailed, very precise, neat and clean! Examples of this work in this application is a triptych is a series of paintings done on wood and painted with acryl gouache. I use a short needle (from my sewing machine actually :) ) which allows the very sharp lines and fine points. The finished work resembles glass or ceramic because of the very clean finish with high sheen. This work received a second place ribbon in its category at the 2024 SWAIA. The second image in the application is a large watercolor stipple painting using a very fine brush to place one dot at a time sometimes in many layers of paint. The mat is hand beaded using small glass beaded added one row at a time directly beaded into the paper. The third image is a multi-layered watercolor in which the upper layer is perforated to show through the second layer. Perforations are done by hand with same sewing machine needle. Come see them in person in the booth!
