Description of Material and TechniqueJ. Rae PictouMy diverse artform involves a number of techniques and materials that can be broken down into different categories such as hot glass, cold glass, beadwork, and stained glass. The following is a list of my usual skill tools.HOT GLASS Lampworked glass – Depending on the items to be created I use either Soft Glass (COE 104) or Borosilicate (COE 33) by melting and shaping glass rods on a bench torch and then anneal the items in a kiln. With these techniques I sculpt small beads and pendants that can be used on their own or strung together for a larger piece. One of my favorite techniques is creating hollow beads which are delicately formed to include a bubble of air, thus making the beads hollow. This is different from glass blowing as I am not forcing air into the glass with a pipe to create the bubble but instead using the glass to encase air during the forming process.COLD GLASSHand Faceting – During this
