Portfolio Example & Artist Statement
Joseph Otero

A majority of my work is fabricating from sheet silver and gold with me doing my own gold alloying to 18k from 24k gold. I prefer to use heavier gauges from 18 to 5 gauge in my work for aesthetic and feel reasons. I try to choose stones based on unique looks, quality cut, and higher grades. Hand stamping is featured extensively throughout my work and a focus in my practice. I also use thick castellated and plain bezels to hold my stones and rarely deviate since I prefer the hold strength and aesthetics of those bezels. In the finishing process, I prefer various brush/satin finishes in works that feature my stamp work. If there is a stone, I tend to go with a high polish.
