My materials include (Vinita and Hulbert clay found on local Cherokee land) hand gathered by me for my traditional pieces that are also pit fired and red earth low fire clay for my contemporary pieces. On the latter, I like to experiment with different finishes including painted and double fired (with pine and cedar), underglazes for sgraffito, waxed or stained, etc. I do like to take our old southeastern shapes and designs and expand on them creatively, or "carry them forward" while always making the connection that I hold dear and to pass on to other Natives wanting to learn. My favorite thing to do is storytelling with my works. Every piece has a story or meaning.
