Birch bark, antique Venetian glass beads, wampum shell, sterling silver, antlers, brain tanned doeskin, Czech glass beads, Sitka deer antlers.Using traditional and sustainably sourced materials such as birch bark, wampum shell, home tanned hide, and antler, Longhouse Skydome tells a visual story of creation. A pregnant sky woman falls to earth, landing on a suspended futuristic longhouse. Below her lay a bed of medicine, with strawberries and roots connecting the celestial world to the terrestrial. The seven Skydomes make up the ribs of the Longhouse, constructed of individually beaded pieces of birch bark, sandwiched over the sterling silver scaffolding. The structures all hang and balance freely, soldered together to allow for movement when the observers breathe or walk by, interacting with the piece. Below the dome is a brain-tanned doeskin, still with the patches from the smoke-tanning process. Hand beaded berries, traded antlers, and roots of antique venetian glass.
