My artwork consists of floral inspired beadwork; utilizing a mixture of antique & rare colored beads - typically on smoked-brain tanned deerskin, adorned with the sparse dentallium shell of the Pacific, freshwater ivory pearls & varies forms of the wampum shell. Each material I use in my artwork is obscure within their own rarities. Aside from the beads, every material & shell is ingeniously sourced. As I moved to the east coast, I was introduced to another shell known as Wampum. The purple/white Quâhog shell holds a crucial role that I utilized in my beadwork - from bead, to tube, to the raw shell itself. In my exploration of finding wampum, I was able to source my shells from local wampum specialists who spent their lifetimes perfecting the Quâhog beads & tubes, entirely crafted by hand. My beadwork is luxurious as the next Eurocentric fashion brand; encouraged me into the apparel journey of Tees & Totes inspired by my beadwork & hope to uplift our communities through my art forms.
