Materials I use is a natural clay hand dug in my Pueblo area, tempered with volcanic ash, that is also gathered in my Pueblo area. I “pinch pot” form all of my pieces, and deep carve once they are “leather hard”. Each piece is stone polished by hand using a natural red clay slip. I use traditional outdoor firing methods for both red and black finishes. For a red firing using only wood, and for a black firing I use dry horse manure to smother the fire and create the black coloration.
