Portfolio Example & Artist Statement
Michelle Slim

I have been making jewelry for over 30 years. I use sterling silver, copper, and brass. Everything I create is hand made by me. I have no help or fancy machinery. I used Natural gems and precious stones like various turquoise, bumble bee jasper, mother of pearl, and different shells. Quills and beads are also used in my jewelry making. I learned everything from my mom, she taught my brothers and I, when I was around 10 years old. We learned to help her create pieces for her jewelry. Creating jewelry became part of our daily chores. We would sell jewelry by Palace of the Governors, then went to different art shows around the US. Both Traditional and Contemporary styles are found in my pieces.
