Patricia Michaels

I love working with natural fibers starting with my favorite, Hand Painted silks by me, wools, leather, metal, mica, clay, wood, corn husks, draping, digital graphic design, weaving, sewing, beadwork, appliqué, photography, video, music and pattern making. This are extremely specialized techniques that have evolved over the past 40 years for my fashion. My commitment to keep it fresh while celebrating the traditions of exploring new resourcing is vital in respects of my upbringing in my traditional home of Taos Pueblo. I have been raised around ceremonies my whole life so the only way one can participate is make everything that is needed for the ceremonies and this is how my creativities started. I’m fortunate to enhance my knowledge through college and then collaborations with many Native from the USA and Canada. As a traditional woman I feel it is important to be able to explore the world and still come home to inspire the youth to see our work at home is sacred and important.
