I have a variety of work in Diverse Arts working with gourds using acrylic paints which allows for the colorful pieces I create. I paint on gourd pots, gourd rattles, gourd sculpture and gourd bolo ties and pendants. My backgrounds are painted to look like rock art/petroglyphs with the overlay designs being of contemporary and traditional Zia Pottery designs of old and my own creations. These designs range from a variety of motifs: animals, flowers, plants, insects, and stylized Pueblo designs for kiva steps, clouds, mountains, celestial images, migration symbols. I also love to draw and paint horses both realistic and stylized Pueblo representations. I also grow my own gourds so the work is from seed to finished art. Gourds are dried out for a year then the cleaning process begins. They are boiled to make them more durable then cleaned once again before painting process begins. Rattles have pebbles gathered for the sound, driftwood handles collected at the river and parrot feathers.
