Portfolio Example & Artist Statement
Ramona Morrow

The main materials I use are leather-both vegetable tanned and chrome, along with hair on hide leather and deerskin leather, horse hair, elk antler sheds in the form of buttons and toggle closures; using a combination of hand sewing, machine sewing, leather braiding, leather tooling, leather carving, burning and painting. This also includes hand and machine appliqué, buck stitching and whip stitching. I also use commercial D rings, lobster clasps, rivets, metal zippers, magnetic closures, waxed thread for hand stitching and antique paste for hand tooled pieces. Techniques of inlaying precious stone cabochons such as turquoise can also be found in my work. I also make belts and guitar straps using similar techniques and materials, but my main focus is bag making with art being a focal point.
