I use a wide variety of materials and bead working techniques. The materials include glass, precious stones, bone, wood, and metal beads. I have gathered over several decades a type of library of beads. Arranged by color, shape, and texture, I use this palette of beads to draw/bead from. I work on various types of hides and materials including deer, elk, buffalo and calf hides; as well as wool and silk/hemp fabric. When dying silk/hemp fabric as underpaintings for my 2-D works, I use natural plant dyes and mordants, especially those related to place. I gather all my dye plants both locally and along Kiowa tribal ancestorial territory, although I do purchase cochineal bugs. I use "traditional" bead working techniques such as lane stitch, shaped lane stitch, 2-needle applique, various edge working, peyote stitch, and bead stringing although I am always open to learning new skills and experimenting with new materials.
