Portfolio Example & Artist Statement
Vashti Etzel

I use a variety of natural or dyed quills in my work. I harvested the porcupine quills myself and dye the quills myself. I use vintage and contemporary beads and gemstones. My material is often traditional home tan moose hide sourced from Indigenous families or purchased wool and velvet from Indigenous businesses. My findings are commercial sterling silver, 14kt and 18kt gold findings. I use the single stitch two needle applique for beadwork. I use a variety of quilling techniques, such as, sewing hollow quills onto hide or flattening quills onto the hide.
